PhonePe renames Share.Market as PhonePe Invest and adds a portfolio optimiser

PhonePe Invest is the new name for PhonePe’s stockbroking platform Share.Market, which now includes a portfolio-building and optimisation feature that tracks holdings and suggests changes based on performance and diversification, co-founder and chief product and technology officer Rahul Chari told Moneycontrol on October 19. Chari said the product targets the gap between small-ticket SIP savings on the payments app and direct equity investing, moving the focus from active traders to long-term investors.

Why it matters: PhonePe has more than 50 crore users and close to half of UPI payments, so even a small conversion rate into equity accounts would make it a large broker in competition with Groww and Zerodha. It also earns commission on the regular mutual fund plans it sells, so users will need clear disclosure of how the AI-driven portfolio suggestions are produced and whether they amount to advice.
