In its Groww Q2 results for the quarter to September 30, listed parent Billionbrains Garage Ventures reported on October 14 that profit after tax rose 54% year on year to ₹725 crore, from ₹471.34 crore, and total income rose 44% to ₹1,540.54 crore. Margin trading, commodity derivatives, the wealth business, whose assets under management passed ₹10,000 crore, and the asset manager, at ₹7,179 crore of AUM, contributed more, while equity derivatives contributed less after SEBI introduced the Closing Auction System.

Why it matters: Groww is replacing derivatives income with margin trading loans and asset management, which earn steadier fees but put more of its revenue on customer borrowing and market-linked assets. The company expects derivatives to recover once the recommendations in a SEBI consultation paper take effect, so the next two quarters will show whether that recovery comes or the lending book has to carry growth.
